Ningon Wyrta Galdor Paper
Herb Profiles
A recreation of a healing salve from ~900-1000 c.e. known as the "Nine Herbs Charm" or Ningon Wyrta Galdor. A healing Galdor (ritual) collected in the Lacnunga healing text which now resides in the British library. In this Galdor, the healer calls upon Wodin to raise his army of healing plants and strike down a wound, which has taken the form of a wyrm.
To create this treatment, the full ritual is required, it is not enough to simply combine the healing herbs into a poultice. The Galdor, which would have been a song, had to be sung at least 20 times in order to complete.
For this piece I recreated the salve, and yes, I said the poem 20x. I wrote a paper on the poem. I also grew the plants and researched each one creating herb profiles. Finally I did herbal paintings recreations of a selection of them.
